No active pitcher in baseball has made more starts without appearing in a World Series game than San Francisco righty Tim Hudson. Discount Shoes Black Friday . Thatll change on Friday when he takes the ball trying to give the Giants a leg up on the Kansas City Royals, as the Fall Classic shifts to AT&T Park for a pivotal Game 3. Early in my career, I thought that Id be here well before now -- theres no question about it, said Hudson, who has started 457 games. But as your career creeps along and youre not able to get here to this big dance, you realize how hard it is. Ive told some of these young guys who are rookies on our club, Soak it all in, man. Because you never know when youre going to be back. The 39-year-old hurler has had two starts this postseason and has pitched to a 3.29 ERA without recording a decision. After throwing 7 1/3 innings of one-run ball in the NLDS, the Los Angeles Dodgers banged him around for four runs in 6 1/3 frames. San Francisco, though, won both of his starts. Hudson has pitched to a 4.12 ERA in 11 starts against the Royals and allowed three runs and six hits in six innings in a no-decision against them earlier in the year. However, Kansas Citys running game could be a concern for him, as over the past two years, Hudson has allowed 22 steals in 26 attempts, the 10th-worst success rate among big leaguers with at least 200 innings. You obviously have to be concerned with it, Hudson said. Thats one of the big strengths of their ballclub. You have to understand how to control the running game. Kansas City, meanwhile, will counter with righty Jeremy Guthrie, who has won five of six decisions since falling to Oakland on Aug. 12. Guthrie has allowed one run or less in six of those nine starts in that span, including a no- decision against Baltimore in the ALCS that saw him surrender a run and three hits in five innings. My goal is to put up zeros, Guthrie said. If I put up zeros, I have a chance to stay in. If I dont, Im going to be taken out, whether its a National League ballpark or not. So thats got to be the focus for me is, what can I do to put up zeros against a good hitting team. Hes also pitched well away from home, going 5-1 with a 2.95 ERA in his last six road starts. Kansas City evened this best-of-seven set on Wednesday, as Omar Infantes two- run homer punctuated a five-run sixth inning that propelled the Royals to a 7-2 win. The Royals bullpen triumvirate of Kelvin Herrera, Wade Davis and Greg Holland continued their domination with 3 2/3 scoreless innings. KCs bullpen has gone 7-0 this postseason with a 1.81 ERA. Of course, as the set transitions to the NL ballpark, the Royals will lose designated hitter Billy Butler in the starting lineup. In the National League, to have a bat like Billy Butlers on the bench coming in a situation, it could be the fourth inning, it could be the fifth inning or the sixth inning with guys in scoring position, Kansas City skipper Ned Yost said. That could be the difference. San Franciscos Pablo Sandoval has continued to carve out his own postseason legacy and has reached base safely in a franchise record 25 straight games. Since the start of divisional play in 1969, the team to win Game 3 in a Series where the first two games were split has gone on to capture the championship 16 of 19 times. These teams actually met in the regular season, as the Royals completed a three-game sweep at Kauffman Stadium. Fridays contest, though, will be Kansas Citys first in San Francisco since 2005. "It feels good, Ive never had one before, not even in College," Hagelin said after the Rangers outgunned the Jets 4-2, behind some solid goaltending from Henrik Lundqvist following a pretty wide open first period. In addition, discipline will increase from 50 games to 80 for a first testing violation and from 100 games to a season-long 162 for a second. A third violation remains a lifetime ban.The vacant UFC welterweight title will finally be decided on Saturday, when Johny Hendricks faces Robbie Lawler in the main event of UFC 171 at American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. TSN 1290s Jordan Cieciwa, Big Marv and Toby are here to give their predictions on who will leave with the belt and who will take some of the other key bouts on the card. Johny Hendricks vs. Robbie Lawler Jordan Cieciwa How do you pick a fight where two guys have the ability to end a fight with one punch. So whos going to win? The fans. Mix in Dana Whites pre-fight speech to all the athletes about getting fired no matter who you are for a boring fight and this one is going to end with a bang. Im going to go out on a limb with this one and talk about Robbie Lawler. I really think he is the fighter in this matchup who has proven he can do more than just the one lucky punch. Johny Hendricks looked amazing against GSP, but he didnt finish the fight. I think Lawler has the ability to out box Hendricks. If this doesnt end with a massive KO, its going to be Lawler out pointing Hendricks. Robbie Lawler via first round TKO Marv For the first time in six-years, well have a new undisputed UFC welterweight champion. Many felt Hendricks beat GSP in their last fight, so when St-Pierre walked away from the octagon and vacated his title, naturally Bigg Rigg was given that championship spot. On the other side, Rory Macdonald was likely to take that role, but he was dominated by Robbie Lawler whose career is resurging after returning to the UFC and dropping back down to 170lbs. Lawler finished former title challenger, Josh Koscheck in the first round, KOd Bobby Volker and beat Macdonald to earn the shot at championship gold. Hendricks is a wrestler who has Hulk-like strength and one-punch knockout power. Lawler is arguably the best striker in the welterweight division. If Hendricks cannot knock you out in the first round, he uses his wrestling to control the fight, which is what I expect him to do against Robbie Lawler. If Lawler can sprawl and brawl and pick Bigg Rigg apart, I see him finishing it in the third round for the upset. Lawler over Hendricks via TKO round 3 Toby Well, its been a long time since weve said “Welterweight Championship” and GSP isnt in the conversation, UFC 171 is a big night for the welterweight division. Johny Hendricks has proven that he is without a doubt one of the top 170 pounders in the world with an outstanding wrestling base and knockout power. I see this fight going to the ground early and often as Robbie Lawler can end a fight with one punch (as can Hendricks). Honestly, Im cheering for Lawler. Id like to see Robbie Lawler win AND Carlos Condit as well, only because (on paper) it would be a title fight with guaranteed fireworks. I get goose bumps just thinking about those two fighting, but back to reality, I have to go with my gut and choose: Hendricks via unanimous decision Carlos Condit vs. Tyrone Woodley JC Tyrone Woodley has been demonstrating some excellent skill. His wrestling and athleticism are unquestionable, he can hit a ton and knockouts are always one second away. That being said, hes never the same great fighter twice. Hes inconsistent, and has a tendency to lose fights he should easily win. Condit is a professional, probably one of my favorite fighters. He is skilled, and aggressive. He takes the first round to get going, and thats where I see this going bad. The oonly chance Woodley has is in the first three or four minutes. Fake Shoes Black Friday. Once Condit finds his stride, he will win this fight. Condit via unanimous decision Marv This is shaping up to be an exciting fight with two welterweights that just go after it. Add a possible title shot to this match and the fight becomes that much more interesting. Woodley, the former Strikeforce welterweight champ is a bit inconsistent in his win/loss column. But he has incredible knockout power and athleticism. Condit is a former WEC champ and former UFC interim champ. His striking is great, he has KO power and can bring the fight to you. Woodleys game plan should be to out wrestle Condit. But I still see Condit taking this one. Condit over Woodley via TKO round 2 Toby This one has fight of the night written all over it, These guys go for it and look to finish fights, as fans, what more can we ask for? A tough one to call because theyre both so explosive, Im going to give the edge to Condit if Woodley cant get it to the ground. Condit via TKO in the third round Diego Sanchez vs. Myles Jury JC Diego Sanchez made a name for himself in a big way with his fight against Gilbert Melendez. Sanchez has always been one to watch, that fight made him someone to talk about. I dont think Myles Jury has what it takes to stand in there and trade with Sanchez. He is 13-0 for a reason, but without having seen a competitor like Sanchez, its tough to bet on the guy with the perfect record. Sanchez via third round TKO Marv The one thing you can always count on is that a Diego Sanchez fight will be fun to watch. His fight against Gilbert Melendez was arguably 2013s Fight of the Year. He fights like a Rockem Sockem robot and brings pressure. Jury is 13-0 in MMA, hes well rounded, can knock you out or submit you, but will he buckle under the pressure that Sanchez brings? I say Jury keeps his undefeated streak going, but it wont be easy. Jury via unanimous decision Toby Sanchez, one of the few cast members from the first season of The Ultimate fighter still fighting in the UFC, is always exciting to watch and brings the fight to his opponent. I see him putting the pressure on but Jury is so well rounded and on a tear (13-0) I see him winning this one. Jury via unanimous decision. Sanchez via most entertaining post fight speech. Hector Lombard vs. Jake Shields JC Hector Lombard is back, he found his weight, hes explosive, and hes on a mission. Jake Shields is an amazing talent, and if I was going to start in the sport, I would ensure I made time for him to be my coach. I dont think he has what it takes physically to stop Lombard. That being said, if Hector doesnt show up with this absolute “A” game, he will end up in a submission or being pinned to the cage with some of the games best MMA Wrestling. Hector Lombard via second round doctor stoppage. Marv One of two things that will happen here, either Hector Lombard knocks out Shields in the first round, or Shields wrestles out a decision. With the exception of his fight with Ellenberger, I see Shields doing just that against Lombard. Shields over Lombard via unanimous decision Toby I couldnt agree with Big Marv on this fight more, Lombard will stop this one early or Shields will grind this one out on the ground and grab the decision victory. Shields via Diaz yelling mean things at Lombard from the corner and a unanimous decision. ' ' '
PHILADELPHIA -- A judge overseeing thousands of NFL concussion-linked lawsuits says lawyers are still working to address her concerns about a proposed $765 million fund. Cheap NHL Jerseys . U.S. District Judge Anita Brody says she fears the fund may not be large enough to cover up to 20,000 retired players for 65 years. Lawyers have given her more data to weigh since she rejected the deal on a preliminary basis in January. The judge says in a Thursday order the parties are continuing to work with the court "to address the issues." She also has clarified an order this week denying approval of the deal was not a new ruling. She says she was simply adding the January ruling to some case files. The judge is expected to hold hearings in the case this year. Wholesale NHL Jerseys . Even a draw would have moved the Kansas City club above Columbus.PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Terrell Suggs isnt one to get rattled. The Baltimore Ravens linebacker has made a career out of being the one who agitates, not the one who gets agitated. For a night anyway, the Pittsburgh Steelers found a way to reverse the roles.Ben Roethlisberger threw six touchdown passes and the Ravens lost their cool in a 43-23 loss on Sunday night. Baltimore turned it over twice, gave up four sacks and was flagged 10 times while losing its second straight. We didnt respond well when bad things started to happen, Suggs said. Weve got to be better. We cant be kidding ourselves anymore. We have a lot of work to do.Better get started soon. The Ravens (5-4) fell into last place in the crowded AFC North with the loss after it failed to sweep the season series from the surging Steelers (6-3), who have won three straight. Its frustrating anytime you lose and dont play the way you expect to play, but weve got to get over it and keep working on it, Baltimore wide receiver Torrey Smith said. Nobodys going to feel sorry for us.Certainly not Pittsburgh. The Ravens dominated the Steelers 26-6 in Week 2, emerging from a chaotic few days surrounding the release of running back Ray Rice by physically overwhelming the Steelers. This time, it was the other way around. Joe Flacco threw for 303 yards with two touchdowns and an interception but absorbed a series of shots from a relentless Pittsburgh pass rush. They come after you and you have to get the ball in someones hands, coach John Harbaugh said. You have to make a play to take them out of it. We didnt do enough to discourage that at all really at any point in the game. There were no such issues for Roethlisberger.A week after passing for a franchise-record six touchdowns against Indianapolis, Roethlisberger duplicated the feat to help Pittsburgh (6-3) win its third straight. Roethlisbergers 12 touchdown passes over the last two games broke the mark of 11 set by Tom Flores for Oakland in 1963 and matched by New Englands Tom Brady in 2007.Antonio Brown caught 10 passes for 138 yards and a score. Rookie Martavis Bryant hauled in two scoring receptions and has five touchdowns in three games. The renewal of one of the NFLs most physical rivalries traded its usual taut, low-scoring style for something decidedly more spectacular but no less physical. When Roethlisberger wasnt dissecting Baltimores depleted secondary with his expanding number of targetss, the teams were trading punches and penalties. NHL Jerseys China . Just not the lead, not after a resurgent Pittsburgh defence gave Roethlisberger all the momentum he would need to continue the finest stretch of his 11-year career. We took advantage of turnovers our defence gave us, Roethlisberger said. We were slow starting but made plays down the stretch. The Ravens were in front 7-0 midway through the second quarter and the Steelers were sputtering when a little vintage Pittsburgh defence — led by suddenly youthful 36-year-old linebacker James Harrison — turned the tide.Cornerback Brice McCain raced 26 yards following a Lorenzo Taliaferro fumble to set up a 5-yard touchdown pass from Roethlisberger to LeVeon Bell, and Jason Worilds picked off Flacco and returned it 30 yards to put Roethlisberger in position to find Bryant for a 19-yard score to put the Steelers up 14-7.The Ravens, playing without injured cornerback Jimmy Smith, simply couldnt keep up. Roethlisberger ended the half with a perfect 47-yard strike to Markus Wheaton.Even when things went wrong, they went right for Pittsburgh. The Steelers tacked on a 2-point conversion following Wheatons score when punter Brad Wing made up for a botched hold by scrambling to his right and connecting with tight end Matt Spaeth to make it 22-10 at the break.Rather than sit on the lead, the Steelers kept attacking. Roethlisbergers 25 completions went to eight different receivers, though he relied on an old one and his new favourite to help the Steelers end a pivotal three-game homestand with a perfect 3-0 record.Roethlisberger found Brown for a 54-yard catch-and-run early in the fourth quarter to make it 29-10. Jacoby Jones responded with a 108-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, but Roethlisberger then hit the 6-foot-4 Bryant for an 18-yard strike and capped another remarkable night with a 33-yard score to Spaeth with 1:51 remaining.I guess once you get in the groove it is what it is, Suggs said. He made some lays. His receivers made some plays for him. He played a phenomenal game.NOTES: Steelers S Troy Polamalu left with a sprained left knee in the second quarter and did not return. ... Baltimore TE Owen Daniels had six receptions for 53 yards a week after having minor knee surgery. ...
